In the last little while, I have posted a couple of sites where you can record video online without having to register. MailVU is another one of those sites and allows users to record and host videos of up to 10 minutes. Here is how it works:
- Go to MailVU and click on the ‘Allow’ button to let the website access your webcam and microphone.
- Click on the red ‘Record’ button to start recording. The clock will countdown as it records. You can record up to 10 minutes of video for free. Click on ‘Stop’ to finish the recording. Click on ‘Play’ to review.
- Once you are done recording, click on ‘Share’ to save the video on their server and get a unique web address. Click on ‘Yes’ when the dialog box pops up and click on ‘Copy to clipboard’ to get the web address. Click on ‘OK’ to finish. Paste that address somewhere you would like to save it.
- When you or someone else goes to that address, the video will start playing. You can click on the play button to watch it again.
While this site doesn’t allow you to embed the video on a blog, it does give the longest record time of any of the sites I have reviewed so far. This is a great tool for recording short lessons to share with students or for presentations.
What do you think of MailVU? Have you used it before? Share your comments and ideas below, send me a Tweet at @nathanghall, or email me using the contact page on this website. Thank you.
