500 Words is an annual writing contest put on by BBC Radio 2. Children up to age 13 write a story of only 500 words and are whittled down to a group of finalists. These stories are then read by professional actors. Stories can be downloaded as read, and listened to, offline. While the language may be a bit high for even higher level students, the length of the text makes it possible to be used with language learners.
